Orlando really is a golfer’s paradise. There are over a thousand courses in Florida catering for every standard of golfer. The quality of golf courses and facilities is unparalleled - even the most readily accessible courses are of a standard much higher than golfers can expect in the UK.
Florida’s climate means that golf can be enjoyed 365 days a year and courses are rarely crowded, allowing you to choose your tee-off time and be assured of a leisurely round.
You can find golf courses virtually right round the entire Florida coastline and plenty of courses inland as well. They cover every type of course from traditional links-style coastal designs to courses set among marshes, swamps, lakes and forests. You can even find courses with hills, which comes as a shock to those who think of the state as being totally flat.
It’s no wonder that more golfers choose Florida for their golf vacation than any other destination in the world. Florida has more golf courses than any other state and is home to the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, LPGA, PGA of America, World Golf Hall of Fame and more professional golfers than any other U.S. state.
There are dozens of golf courses within easy reach of our villa, including the beautiful championship courses of Champions Gate (designed by Greg Norman) and Reunion (designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus) just 2 minutes away. These are located on the scenic route to Disney through the Old Lake Wilson Preserve on Highway 545.
Make sure you keep an eye out as you play golf around Florida because Orlando is home to some of golf’s greats. Golf legend Arnold Palmer hosts the annual Bay Hill Invitational on the prestigious course he bought after beating Jack Nicklaus in a match there in the 1960s, and more than a dozen current and former stars have homes there. They include Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, Mark O’Meara,, Annike Sorrenstam and Arnold Palmer himself. Be sure to have an autograph book and pen handy!
